About Us

Jairos Jiri Association is a registered Non-Governmental Organisation for people with Disabilities. Founded in 1950 by the late Mr Jairos Jiri MBE MA Hons, the Association, which bears his name, is probably the largest of its kind in Africa and today the need is greater than ever, but there are throughout Zimbabwe places of hope for the disabled of our country, where they learn and train to be respected and independent members of our society. The Jairos Jiri Association (JJA) is the largest service provider to people with disabilities and over 6500 clients are saved every year through outreach and follow up integration programmes. In addition the Association operates 16 centers were 1200 children and adults get treatment, care and education. The work of the Association is very diversified and continued to be tailored to meet the needs of People with Disabilities (men, women, boys and girls). Among its many activities are Inclusive schools, special  schools for the deaf and blind, hostels and homes, vocational training center, agriculture skills training center, clinics, orthopaedic workshops and satellite units, Community-based Rehabilitation Programme, Craft shops and Gender empowerment programmes.

Mission

To promote and empower People with Disabilities to become full contributors to development.

Objectives

a) To assist and facilitate the provision of medical treatment to people with disabilities and to encourage preventative measures.

b) To establish and equip clinics, schools and centres for education, training, treatment and welfare of people with disabilities in their communities.

c) To assist people with disabilities in their communities in acquiring information, knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for their full participation and

    rehabilitation

d) To network with the Government of Zimbabwe and other agencies to enhance the rights and needs of people with disabilities.

e) To advocate for mainstreaming of disability in all sectors of society including being   gender sensitive and compliant with the prevailing legislation.

f) To improve the socio economic position of people with disabilities by providing micro-credit through a loan-revolving fund in order to reduce poverty.  

g) To provide institutional rehabilitation and treatment of elderly people with disabilities who are devoid of adequate family support systems.

h) To do such acts as may be lawfully executed in furtherance of the above and or other objects that the association deems fit.
