Jairos Jiri Southerton Children’s Centre is situated in Southerton, south-west of the Harare Central Business District, provides rehabilitation and educational services to primary school going age children who are physically challenged. Southerton Centre has an enrolment capacity of 255 pupils and a staff complement of 65 which includes specialist teachers, Physiotherapists, Nurse Aides and other support staff. Physiotherapy and occupational therapy is provided to both inmates and outpatients. It is the biggest of its kind in the country, and has over the years produced many respectable citizens, some of them who are graduates of our local universities. Over the years the centre has nurtured pupils who are highly competitive in all aspects of life, independent and self-reliant. The centre ensures that the ideal product is a responsible citizen who is well socialised, God fearing, cultured and well disciplined. Southerton centre realises that while sport has value in everyone's life, it is even more important in the life of children with disabilities because of the rehabilitative influence it has not only on the physical body but also on rehabilitating people with disabilities into society hence it offers a variety of sporting activities such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, slalom, wheelchair races and athletics. Southerton centre was recently granted permission to run a secondary school. The Secondary school is currently operating as a satellite of Kwaedza Secondary School of High Glen District.
