Masvingo Agricultural Skills Training Centre
Located at the outskirts of Masvingo town, the training centre built on a 5 acre freehold land which comprises 2 grazing paddocks, an irrigation plot and a dry land farming area and falls within agro-ecological region 4 which has a low and erratic pattern. Agricultural recommendations for this area are extensive pastoral farming, subsistence crops such as millet, sunflower, groundnuts and irrigation. The centre offers courses in Basic agriculture and welding. Masvingo centre graduates now gainfully employed and self-reliant. Through the support of Lutheran World Federation a bore-hole was sunk in the northern part, which greatly boosted water resources for the farm. The centre has infrastructure and equipment which includes offices, hostels and classrooms, boreholes, an irrigation system and 6 water tanks which were recently installed. The farm has horticulture, marketing gardening, piggery, poultry and dairy cattle projects and training of men, women, boys and girls with disabilities in basic agriculture, welding and animal husbandry is the major thrust of the centre. The Community Based Rehabilitation programme facilitates the identification of trainees and makes referrals to the centre.
